Oh no 'Greening Ghana'???

One of the most interesting activities for the Ghana@50 celebrations is Greening Ghana Day which is held once a month with individuals, homes and organizations asked to get involved in tree planting ...seedlings can be collected from Parks and Gardens.

This roundabout is next to the British High Commissioners residence and used to be one of the greenest in Accra with quite a number of trees and shrubs in it. Anyway yesterday I drove by and was shocked to see the trees cut down and replaced with the silly juju banners.

Here's a photo of the roundabout today.
I just hope new trees are going to be planted there.

Ghana thrash Nigeria 4:1

Last night, Ghana destroyed Nigeria at Brentford with 4 goals to 1.

Ghana has ended the fifteen-year winless run against Nigeria, beating their West African rivals 4-1 in an international friendly at Brentford’s Griffin park Tuesday night.

Three second half goals in a spate of 15 minutes sent Ghana into the lead before the Nigerians grabbed a consolation through a spot kick. But Ghana never looked back as it hit the fourth goal to seal a resounding win.

Busumuru returns!

Former Secretary General of the UN Kofi Annan returned home on January 23, 2007.

The hype paid off. Crowds of people from all walks of life thronged to the airport to welcome Ghana's favorite son: His Excellency Busumuru Dr. Kofi Annan and his wife Nane. Even though they arrived late in the evening the welcome was extra special with dancing et al. Chiefs, diplomats, ministers, the President and his Vice were all there.

Will he run for the Castle in 2008? He doesn't have to! Just a day after he was instrumental in making peace between the 2J's.

But his lecture last Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the Accra International Conference Centre (Inaugural Golden Jubilee Lecture) was a real killer. I got a ticket which I passed onto Nana B O VII. He thoroughly enjoyed it the event.

In my opinion, Busumuru has kick-started the Ghana@50 celebrations. Check out my Ghana@50 event calendar here

Lunch at Auntie Nanaa's 140107

Yesterday we set up camp at Auntie Nanaa's for lunch, pool and a very very nice time. There were four generations of us at the chill out.

We saw her Boerbole puppy ...she's massive with a funny walk.

The photo album of our chill out is here I haven't given them captions yet.

Week Ending 070107

It's been a quiet sort of week. There were so many activities over Xmas that the New Year was all about resting.

The Hamattan season is here. Stronger this year than I can remember.

Everything has this fine white dust covering which keeps coming back after you clean up. My throat is a bit tickly too.

I hope it clears away next week.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year

New Year's Eve and New Year's Day were very quiet for us. Our neighbours had fireworks going which really unsettled Tyson.

January 2 was a holiday because of Eid Ul Adha - nothing much happened because everyone was tired.

Hamattan came with a vengeance on New Years Day - quite severe!

I wish everyone a prosperous 2007.

Daddy's Birthday - December 27, 2006

Yesterday, December 27 was Daddy's birthday. I was at the office during the day but V and Mummy organised a nice party in the garden for Daddy.

I got back in time to join in the fun. Th company was good, the food was a lot and I took Christelle flying.

I got quite a few pictures from the time I got there.
